The GLOBED programme celebrates its 10th anniversary by inviting researchers, practitioners, policymakers, alumni, and partner organisations from around the world to participate in an open international conference to be held on 1-2 October 2026 at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).
The event will provide a space for exchange and reflection on key developments in education policy and global development over the past decade, as well as on future challenges and directions in a rapidly evolving global context.
Bringing together diverse perspectives, the conference features key contributions from prominent international figures and institutions across keynotes, round tables, and research panels. The programme opens with a keynote address by Amita Chudgar (Michigan State University) examining educational governance through the lens of teachers and teaching in a changing world.
Discussions will continue with a round table on knowledge, expertise, and professional futures in the AI era featuring Beatriz Pont (UNESCO IIEP), Nora Revai (OECD), and Mohammad Muntasim Tanvir (Global Partnership for Education), followed by a second round table addressing governance, equity, inclusion, and social justice across regions with Javier González (SUMMA), Keita Takayama (Adelaide University), Presha Ramsarup (University of the Witwatersrand), and Eleftherios Klerides (University of Cyprus).
Moreover, across both days, there will be multiple parallel sessions dedicated to research papers and lightning presentations, covering themes such as market dynamics, migration, development cooperation, gender, and policy innovation. The conference will conclude with a closing session on the future of global higher education led by Noah Sobe (UNESCO) and Antonina Levatino (University of Seville).
