Francesc J. Miguel Quesada is Associate Professor in Sociology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) where he teaches quantitative methodology and applied statistical analysis. He is also a lecturer in the Applied Social Research Techniques Master of the University of Barcelona. He is Director of the Laboratory for Socio-Historical Dynamics Simulation (LSDS) of the UAB and a founding member of the research group on Analytical Sociology and Institutional Design (GSADI).
Professor Quesada has conducted research on social indicators in relation to the situation of women in contemporary society, and on school-to-work transitions (in collaboration with the research group GRET). Currently, he mainly works in developing “computational sociology” -an applied branch of artificial intelligence that merges Social Science and computer simulation techniques to model complex policy issues and societal dynamics. He is involved in several competitive projects about the use of agent-based social simulation for the modelling of social networks dynamics, evolution of social behavior and evaluation of institutional designs by means of soft-experimentation.
